Public Digital is a global consultancy that works with large businesses, governments and institutions to become more responsive, adaptable and impactful.
Their monthly hybrid event series, “Data Bites,” showcases interesting data projects across government. It provides a space for practitioners within and beyond the public sector—particularly those in digital professions—to explore successes, learn from challenges, and better understand the impact that innovative uses of data can have on public services.
The events took place at Broadway House in London, however the in-house equipment did not meet the demands needed to livestream or run the event with precision. To solve this Bowerman Audiovisual was tasked with providing the solution.
A complete end to end AV solution with livestreaming for a monthly corporate live event consisting of multiple presentations and Q&A session.
To provide a multicamera livestreaming solution alongside audio and video production for the in-room audience as well as facilitating remote speakers to present and show content. The event also required a triggered countdown timer to be displayed to both online and in-room audiences as well as other media content.
Three-camera setups enabled dynamic live switching between wide shots and close-ups, capturing key moments and speaker interactions to create an engaging viewing experience.
Additional lighting was introduced to optimise on-camera image quality, ensuring a clean, professional broadcast regardless of venue conditions.
Each presenter was equipped with a wireless lavalier microphone, allowing for cable-free movement and smooth transitions between speakers. Audio mixing was managed for both the in-room audience and the livestream, with backup recordings in place to ensure reliability. Roaming Q&A microphones were also utilized, enabling both online participants and in-room attendees to clearly hear audience questions.
YouTube.com was used to stream the event, providing a cost-free and reliable platform. Slido.com was used to collect questions from the online audience, and thanks to its YouTube embedding feature, everything was accessible within a single, streamlined interface increasing audience engagement.
All presentation slides and video content were managed by the production team, allowing speakers to focus entirely on delivery without technical distractions.
Foldback screens were deployed so presenters could easily view their content without turning away from the audience, improving delivery and engagement.
Custom on-screen graphics, including branded layouts, colours, and logos, were integrated into the livestream to reinforce the brand’s identity and elevate production value.
Presenters were able to participate in the event from remote locations using Microsoft Teams. Utilising NDI technology, clean video feeds and presentation content were extracted from Teams and then routed to both the in-room displays and the livestream when required.
An eight-minute countdown timer was executed at the start of each presentation and subsequent Q&A session. This appeared on a dedicated in-room display and was also embedded on to the livestreamed video. A dedicated graphics PC was used to host the timer video, which was then distributed across the network using NDI technology to the necessary devices.
A pre-event video was looped ahead of the broadcast going live, serving as a holding screen for the online audience. This provided key event and brand information and ensured a smooth, well-timed transition into the live programme.
Public Digital’s Data Bites series successfully ran over 18 months at Broadway House, increasing its brand presence within the public sector by using online events as well as in-person engagement. Being able to host remote presenters enabled a wider reach in securing key content and reduced cost and logistical constraints. The complex setup was installed and tested in just 3 hours before the event started, displaying the reliability and agility that Bowerman Audiovisual brings to complex live streamed events.
