The Lost Lectures is a trailblazing underground event series that ripped up the rulebook on how audiences and ideas converge.
Born in London in 2012, it built a cult following by transforming lectures into full-blown immersive worlds; staging nights of discovery with eclectic speaker sets in secret, art-directed spaces; from decommissioned power stations to floating theatres, abandoned hotels to forgotten Olympic pools; across London, New York, and Berlin.
Bowerman Audiovisual was involved in a number of these events, but for this example we look at Alexandra Palace’s disused Victorian theatre which hadn’t been open to the public since 1934
Audio production and recording of 2 evenings of informative talks and live music performances.
Lost Lectures' host 4 high profile guest speakers to talk about their specialist field to an audience of up to 600 people. The short 20min talks are supported by slideshows and videos with audience Q&A encouraged at the end of each. Furthermore, complimenting an already entertaining evening, a live music performance closed the event.
Bowerman Audiovisual were tasked with providing sound equipment and operation, ensuring speech was clear and that the live music and media playback delivered to the audience. In addition, audio multitrack recording was executed for content creation post event.
The main PA system was a ground stacked d&b Y system which provided the power and wide distribution to cater for the sizable audience. This was supported by additional Q series delay speakers, re-enforcing the speech along the echoey room and vastly improving the clarity for listeners at the rear.
For the live performances, we provided the complete stage audio, including microphones, DI boxes and monitoring.
The acts on this event were Public Service Broadcasting and Little Simz who were both treated with excellent support from the technical crew to ensure their performances made an impact.
All was mixed using a high spec Midas mixing console, where additional outputs were used for multitrack recording and feeds to videographers.
Both nights were an emphatic success with 1200 satisfied audience members enjoying clear sound and informative talks. The musical acts sounded incredible and we thoroughly enjoyed contributing to the fantastic event for The Lost Lectures in such an incredible historic venue.
Bowerman Audiovisual continued to collaborate with The Lost Lectures across a range of unique venues, including the Art Deco–era Hornsey Town Hall, Bethnal Green’s York Hall, a secret warehouse in Manor House, and a disused shopping centre in East London, among others. Over a three-year period, we played a critical role in ensuring the success of every event.
